Hello! We’re making our way through August and we thought it would be a good time for a recap of what we’ve been up to over on Flickr. We spent a lot of time enjoying the outdoors this summer, appreciating our planet and your photography, while also releasing some amazing product updates along the way. Here is a quick run-down of what we’ve been up to!
We recently partnered with The Conservation Alliance to survey photographers from a variety of backgrounds about how protected open spaces affect their photography. The results were irrefutable: whether they are a hobbyists or pros, protecting open spaces is crucial to their craft and will ultimately protect photography. You can check out the full survey results here and visit the Flickr blog to read more about what we learned from this invaluable information as we continue our work towards protecting our planet!
As we continue learning how to best lend our support to conservation efforts, we recently announced joining 1% for the Planet and also launching our Flickr for the Planet group. There are over 19K images in the group already, showing the many ways in which Flickr members are capturing the beauty of nature all around them every day.
We recently announced an opportunity to have select images from the Flickr for the Planet group featured on the Flickr homepage. If you’d like others to see your beautiful captures of nature, wildlife and stunning landscapes, join us in Flickr for the Planet and check out the discussion!
In July, we wrapped up our first month’s worth of pictures for our new Photo of the Day feature. Every day we spotlight a photo from the Flickr Social group on Flickr’s Instagram account. If you’d like a chance for your own photos to be featured and appreciated by the masses, head on over to the discussion in Flickr Social and share a photo in the comments with a caption sharing the story behind it.
While we are catching up on some of the news and updates we released in July, we don’t want to miss an opportunity to highlight the exciting album improvements released earlier this month. Inspired by suggestions from the Flickr community, we recently updated Flickr Albums to make organizing photos more intuitive and more enjoyable. Some of the areas covered with this product release includes: Searching your albums, reordering your albums and new custom sorting options! Read through the details on these advanced photo organization improvements in the Flickr blog!
And for a little new news, Monday, we launched our World Photography Day contest and we don’t want anyone to miss it! This year, we’re partnering with retailer, Public Lands for our outdoor-themed World Photography Day 2024 Photo Contest and Public Lands is providing some amazing prizes fit for any outdoor adventurer. The contest runs from Monday August 19th to Sunday September 8th, so pick up a camera and join us in the official contest Flickr group and share your contest contenders today!
That’s a wrap for this recap. See you next month!
